BRAZIL WINS SILVER AT ISSF CUP RIFLE/PISTOL RIO DE JANEIRO.
Brazil ended its participation in the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol Rio de Janeiro by winning the silver medal! In the dispute for the gold medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol by Team Men, the German trio got the better of the Brazilians Emerson Duarte, Felipe Wu and Vladimir Silveira. The bronze medal went to Thailand.
One of the most experienced of the Brazilian delegation, Vladimir Silveira from São Paulo turned 54 on April 11 during the competition. The first medal in the World Cup was also worth a birthday present.
“It really was a gift. This medal is the end of a training cycle, the beginning of work towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Furthermore, the medal proves that we are on the right track. I dedicate this achievement to my family, to the Confederation team, who always support us, and to God,” he said emotionally.
For Emerson Duarte, from São Paulo, the silver medal means a positive sign to continue on the path, without being ecstatic, but always looking to improve.
“This medal is a resumption for us, as due to the pandemic we had few training sessions and competitions. It’s an extra motivation, even more at home, because it has more visibility for the public and shows that we have a good potential to develop. It is also an incentive for us to grow and fight on an equal footing with the world powers”, stated Emerson.
The best campaign
With the conquest of the silver medal in the Rapid Fire Pistol, Brazil carried out its best campaign in the history of the World Cups. The national team also won two bronze medals. The first was in the 10m Air Pistol Team Men (Felipe Wu, Philippe Chateaubrian and Roberto Gomes), and the second was in the 25m Pistol Team Women (Ana Luiza Souza, Paula Sayuri Yado and Thais Carvalho Moura).
“These results increase the visibility of sport shooting and serve as an incentive for younger athletes, who are just starting out. We already know that Brazil will host other competitions of this level in the coming years and this will be a springboard for us to make new dreams come true”, highlighted Felipe Wu, silver and bronze in the ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro.
In the medal table, Germany finished in the lead, with seven golds, three silvers and two bronzes (12 in total). In second place was Norway with three gold, four silver and three bronze (ten in total). The Czech Republic finished in third place, with three gold and two silver (five in total).
The ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro was organized by the Brazilian Shooting Sport Confederation, with the support of the Brazil Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Army, the Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos, the Sellier&Bellot and the ECOS Turismo.
