ARMENIA AND ITALY WIN THE FIRST ISSF WORLD CUP RIO DE JANEIRO MEDALS

In two balanced and decided finals in the last series, Armenian Elmira Karapetyan and Italian Nilo Maldino won the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol at the ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro Rifle / Pistol 2023. The competition is being played until next Monday at the Military Shooting Sports Centre (CMTE).
In the first final this Thursday, the Women’s 10m Air Pistol, Armenia’s Elmira Karapetyan won the first gold medal of the 2023 World Cup. Elmira beat China’s Wang Siyu by less than one point: 236.6pts to 235.8pts. Bronze went to China’s Wei Kian. Brazil had four athletes in the race: Cibele Breide (27th – 561pts), Mariana Betoni (34th – 557pts), Paula Sayuri Yado (35th – 557pts) and Marina Mendonça (41st – 551pts).
In the Men’s 10m Air Pistol decision, Italian Nilo Maldini won the gold medal with 237.8 points against 236.4pts from Latvian Emils Vasermanis. The bronze medal went to Lauris Strautmanis, also from Latvia. Brazilian Felipe Wu was two points away from a place in the final, with 576pts, and finished in 17th place. Brazil had four more athletes in the race: Caio de Almeida (33rd – 570pts), Philipe Chateaubrian (35th – 569pts), Adalto da Silveira (47th – 560pts) and Gustavo Hatum (58th – 552pts).

OPENING CEREMONY: CBTE PRESIDENT CONFIRMS 2024 WORLD CUP IN BRAZIL

The Opening Ceremony of the ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro was held this Wednesday, with the presence of the president of the International Federation (ISSF), Luciano Rossi; the National Secretariat of High Performance Sports of the Ministry of Sports, Marta Sobral; the director of High Performance Sports at the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Ney Wilson Pereira; the ISSF General Secretary, Willi Grill; the marketing director of Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos (CBC), as well as athletes, coaches, managers, referees and jury members.

The president of the Brazilian Shooting Sports Confederation, Jodson Edington, highlighted in his speech the support received by the entities for the event and confirmed the 2024 World Cup in Brazil.

“The ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro 2023 is a milestone for my administration and for the Confederation. But its achievement was only possible thanks to the support of the Brazilian Olympic Committee. Therefore, my special thanks to President Paulo Wanderley. I also thank the Ministry of Sports and the Brazilian Army, responsible for these excellent facilities. May true sporting spirit prevail in our championship”, emphasized the director. “I take advantage of the presence of President Luciano Rossi to confirm the holding of the 2024 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, from April 11th to 19th. This will be the last qualifying competition for the Paris Olympic Games”, he added.

EVERYTHING READY FOR THE ISSF WORLD CUP RIO DE JANEIRO RIFLE / PISTOL 2023

The ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro Rifle / Pistol begins this Tuesday at the Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo (CMTE), in Deodoro, west of the capital of Rio, with the participation of 323 athletes from 61 countries.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, at 4:30 pm, at the Finals Stand. The first events will be played on Thursday, starting at 9 am Brasília time, and the finals on the same day at 11:15 am (Women’s 10m Air Pistol) and 3:15 pm (Men’s Air Pistol).

The Brazilian Team – CBTE will be represented by 23 athletes, 12 men and 11 women. The first to compete in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol (9h) will be Brenda Rodrigues, Cibele Breide, Paula Sayuri Yado and Mariana Betoni. Then, at 11am, it will be the turn of the Men’s 10m Air Pistol, with the participation of Adalto Silveira, Caio de Almeida, Felipe Wu, Gustavo Hatum and Philipe Chateaubrian.

ISSF WORLD CUP RIO DE JANEIRO WILL GATHER MORE THAN 300 ATHLETES FROM 42 COUNTRIES

For eight days, from September 12th to 19th, Rio de Janeiro will be the shooting sports capital of the world. The ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol will host 323 athletes, 23 of them Brazilians, and representatives representing of other 42 countries from three continents: America, Asia and Europe. The competition will take place at the Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo (CMTE), in Deodoro, West Zone of Rio, the same location for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the 2019 and 2022 World Cups. The largest delegation will be from China with 36 athletes.

“This year we will have the presence of 135 more athletes and 13 countries compared to the 2022 edition. We are in the final adjustment phase of the stands where the competitions will be held. The Organizing Committee continues to take care of every detail from the clearance of weapons both on arrival and on the return of the delegations, transportation, accommodation and food. Our objective is that once again the competition is a success for the athletes, coaches, directors, referees and guests”, explains Ericson Andreatta, general director of the competition.
