THE OLYMPIC SELECTION FOR THE PARIS 2024 GAMES COMES TO AN END IN RIO DE JANEIRO

Ole Martin Halvorsen (Norway) and Michael Bargeron (Great Britain), in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men; Emely Jaeggi (Switzerland) and Aleksandra Pietruk (Poland), in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women; and Jean Quiquampoix (France) and Keith Sanderson (United States), in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men. These are the last six of the 16 athletes classified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol, in Rio de Janeiro. The competition was held over nine days at the Military Shooting Sports Center (Olympic Shooting Center) and was attended by 466 athletes from 75 countries representing the five continents: America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The finals were broadcast live on the YouTube channel of Team Brasil, ISSF and NSPORTS.

In the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men, the gold medal went to Finnish Aleksi Leppa, who scored 461.9 points against 459.9pts from Czech Jiri Privratsky, silver medalist. The two were already qualified for Paris. The bronze and the Olympic place went to Norwegian Ole Martin Halvorsen. The other place for Paris belongs to seventh place Michael Bargeron, from Great Britain, as the athletes in fourth to sixth place had also already secured their classifications.

Norwegian Jeannette Hegg Duestad, already qualified for Paris, won the gold medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women by just three tenths: 462.9pts against 462.6pts for Emely Jaeggi, from Switzerland. The young athlete, just 15 years old, secured her Olympic place, as did the Polish Aleksandra Pietruk, fourth placed. The bronze medal went to Swiss Chiara Leone, who needed to overcome her compatriot Emely to take the place.

The last event of the competition, the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men, was decided in the last series by two athletes qualified for the Games: the Czech Martin Podhrasky and the Frenchman Clement Bessaguet. After two draws at 28 to 28 and 31 to 31, the Czech hit all five shots in the new shoot-off series against two from the Frenchman and closed at 36 to 33. Gold for Podhrasky, silver for Clement, and bronze for the Frenchman Jean Quiquampoix, who guaranteed his presence in Paris together with the American Keith Sanderson.

Norway leads the medal table

On the last day of competition, Norway surpassed France in the medal table with Jeannette Duestadna’s gold in Rifle 3 Positions. The Norwegians came first with two gold, one silver and two bronze (five in total). The French finished second with one gold, four silver and one bronze (6). The Czech Republic finished third, with one gold and one silver (2). Germany and Italy shared fourth place, with one gold and one bronze (2).

Six quota places for Paris 2024! The last day of the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol, in Rio de Janeiro, will classify six athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This Friday, at 9:30 am, the final of the Men’s Rifle 3 Positions will be held; next, at 11:30 am, the Women’s 3 Position Rifle; and, finally, at 2pm, the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol. The three final events will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of Team Brasil, ISSF and NSPORTS.

GERMAN AND HUNGARIAN STAMP PASSPORT TO PARIS OLYMPIC GAMES

Josefin Eder, from Germany, and Veronika Major, from Hungary, secured their place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The two athletes qualified for the Games by winning the gold and bronze medal, respectively, in the Women’s 25m Pistol final at the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol, in Rio de Janeiro. The silver medal went to Frenchwoman Camille Jedrzejewski, from France, who was already qualified for Paris, as well as Thu Vinh Trinh, from Vietnam (4th) and Haniyeh Rostamiyan, from Iran (5th).

The Olympic selection ends on Friday when the finals of the last three events will be played and six more places will be defined in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (9:30am Brasília), Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Final (11:30am) and Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (2pm).

France leads the medal table with one gold and three silver (four in total). In second place is Norway with one gold, one silver and one bronze (3). Germany and Italy occupy third place with one gold and one bronze (2). Armenia, Serbia and Türkiye share fifth place with a gold medal.

Lazar Kovacevic, from Serbia, and Edoardo Bonazzi, from Italy, in the men’s, and Manon Herbulot, from France, and Synnoeve Berg, from Norway, in the women’s. This Tuesday, the four athletes secured their participation in the 10m Air Rifle at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after the finals at the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol. The competition is being held until Friday at the Military Shooting Sports Center (Olympic Shooting Center), in Rio de Janeiro.

In the men’s final, Kovacevic secured the gold medal with the last shot and beat Norwegian Jon-Hermann Hegg by just one tenth: 249.0pts to 248.9pts. Bronze and Olympic place for Italian Edoardo Bonazzi. In the women’s final, Frenchwoman Oceanne Muller, already qualified for Paris, won gold with 250.4pts against 249.2pts from her compatriot Manon Herbulot. Bronze for Norwegian Synnoeve Berg.

FOUR ATHLETES GUARANTEE THE OLYMPIC PLACE FOR PARIS IN THE 10M AIR PISTOL

Federico Maldini, from Italy, and Uladzislau Dzemesh (Individual Neutral Athlete), in the men’s, and Kamonlak Saencha, from Thailand, and Palak Gulia, from India, in the women’s. These are the four classified in the 10m Air Pistol for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after this Sunday’s finals at the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol. The competition is being held until Sunday at the Military Shooting Sports Center (Olympic Shooting Center), in Rio de Janeiro.

In the men’s final, Maldini took the gold medal with 236.8 points, leaving Dzemesch in second, with silver, with 235.9 points. Bronze went to German Philipp Grimm. In the women’s final, Elmira Karapetyan, from Armenia, who was already qualified for Paris, secured gold by just two tenths: 240.7pts against 240.5pts from Thailand’s Kamonlak Saencha. Bronze for Indian Palak Gulia.

Four places for Paris 2024! This Sunday, the 10m Air Pistol will meet four more athletes qualified for the Olympic Games at the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol, which is being held at the Military Shooting Sports Center (Olympic Shooting Center), in Rio de Janeiro. The women’s race will start at 9:30 am Brasília, while the men’s race starts at 11 am. The finals will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of Team Brasil, ISSF and NSPORTS.

Of the eight finalists in the women’s race, only Elmira Karapetyan, from Armenia (third place in the classification phase), is guaranteed in Paris. The other seven athletes remain in contention: Mariami Prodiashvili (Georgia), Annabelle Pioch (France), Veronika Major (Hungary), Kamonlak Saencha (Thailand), Palak Palak (India), Sainyam Sainyam (India) and Nigar Nasirova (Azerbaijan).

In the men’s category, the promise of a balanced final. Only four points separated the eight finalists who are in the Olympic fight: Philipp Grimm (Germany), Dzemesch Uladzislau, Viktor Bankin (Ukraine), Valeriy Rakhimzhan (Kazakhstan), Lee Daemyung (Korea), Dikec Yusuf (Turkey), Federico Maldini (Italy) and Kim Cheongyong (Korea).

OPENING CEREMONY OFFICIALLY STARTS THE OLYMPIC RIFLE AND PISTOL SELECTIONS

The Opening Ceremony of the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol was held, this Friday, at the Finals Stand of the Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo (CMTE). Present were the president of the American Shooting Confederation (CAT), Carlos Monterosso; the national secretary of High Performance Sports of the Ministry of Sports, Iziane Marques; the general director of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Rogério Sampaio; federal deputy Ismael Alexandrino, president of the Shooting Sports Subcommittee of the Chamber of Deputies; the head of the Army’s Physical Training Center, Brigadier General Ricardo Taranto; in addition to athletes, coaches, managers, referees and jury members.

The president of the Brazilian Shooting Sports Confederation, Jodson Edington, made a point of highlighting in his speech the event being held in Brazil. The competition brings together more than 460 athletes representing 75 countries from five continents.

“Certainly, it is another great achievement that proves the respect, trust, credibility and prestige that the ISSF has with the CBTE, with the COB, with the Brazilian Army, the Federal Police, the Federal Revenue and the Ministry of Sport. Sports shooting and Brazilian sport benefit a lot from these opportunities within this Olympic cycle that will end at the Paris Games.”

The Opening Ceremony also featured a performance by the Parachute Infantry Brigade Music Band and the Conceito Nacional a Arte da Capoeira (CNAC) group.

TURKYIE WINS THE 1ST GOLD MEDAL IN THE OLYMPIC SELECTIONS IN RIFLE AND PISTOL

Türkiye (gold medal), Ukraine (silver) and Japan (bronze). These were the first three medalists in the final of the Air Pistol 10m Mixed Team event of the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle/Pistol, which is being held at the Military Shooting Sports Center (Olympic Shooting Center), in Rio de Janeiro. The test does not qualify for an Olympic place. The competition, which runs until the 19th of this month, will define the last 16 places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In the gold medal decision, the Turkish pair formed by Yusuf Dikec / Sevval Tarhan beat the Ukrainians Oleh Omelchuk / Yuliia Isachenko 17 to 13. In the bronze medal match, the Japanese pair formed by Seiji Morikawa / Satoko Yamada beat the Bulgarians Samuil Donkov / Miroslava Mincheva 16 to 6. The president of CBTE, Jodson Edington, and the National Secretariat for High Performance Sports of the Ministry of Sports, Iziane Marques, made the award.

Brazilians Felipe Wu and Cibele Breide came in 23rd place (566pts), while Philipe Chateaubrian and Marina Mendonça finished in 31st (562pts). The finals are being broadcast live on the YouTube channel of Team Brasil, ISSF and NSPORTS.

Last Olympic tryout! From April 11th, the Military Shooting Sports Center (Olympic Shooting Center), in Rio de Janeiro, will host the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol. The competition will be attended by 469 athletes from 75 countries representing the five continents: America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania. World champion athletes and Olympic medalists are confirmed.
