GOLD FOR HUNGARY AND CHINA ON THE PENULTIMATE DAY OF THE ISSF WOLRD CUP RIO DE JANEIRO
On the penultimate day of the ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro Rifle / Pistol., Hungarian Veronika Major and Chinese Yukun Liu won the gold medal in the 25m Pistol Women and 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men, respectively. The competition ends this Monday at the Military Shooting Sports Centre (CMTE), in Deodoro, with the finals of the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men and the 50m Rifle 3 Position Women.
In the first final this Sunday, Veronika Major secured the gold medal with a 34-31 victory over China’s Kaiyan Shang, who secured her place in the final by beating her compatriot Yan Chen, who won bronze, in a shot-off. The award was made by the ISSF General Secretary, Willi Grill, and by the competition’s Technical Delegate, Rafael Guerra.
Brazil was represented by Ana Luiza Ferrão (14th – 576pts), Paula Sayuri Yado (26th – 572pts), Marina Mendonça (34th – 562pts), Cibele Breide (36th – 553pts) and Brenda Rodrigues (37th – 552pts).
In the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women, gold medal for the Chinese Yukun Liu who beat the Norwegian Joe-Hermann Hegg in the final by 460.1pts to 456.9pts. Bronze went to Hungarian Istvan Peni. The award was made by Cassio Rippel, president of the CBTE Athletes’ Commission and member of the ISSF Athletes’ Commission, and Ariel Alejandro Martinez, president of the Argentine Shooting Federation.
Swiss Jan Lochbihler, world record holder in the race, finished in seventh place. Brazil had three athletes in the race: Cassio Rippel (33rd – 580pts), Eduardo Sampaio (43rd – 575pts) and Leonardo Vagner (48th – 568pts).
After four days of competition and eight finals, Italy remains at the top of the medal table with two gold and one bronze (a total of three). In second place is China with one gold, three bronze and three bronze (seven). In third place comes Hungary with one gold, one silver and one bronze (three). The fourth position is occupied by Germany (one gold and one bronze). In fifth place are Armenia, India and Serbia, all with one gold (one overall).
