FRANCE AND NORWAY WIN LAST ISSF WORLD CUP GOLD MEDALS

The last day of the ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro Rifle / Pistol 2023 was marked by the first gold medal for France and Norway in the competition, in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men and 50m 3 Position Rifle Women events, respectively. Italy finished at the top of the medal table (two gold and one bronze), while China, second placed, won the most: eight. And from April 11th to 19th next year, the Military Shooting Sports Centre (CMTE) will once again be the headquarters of world sports shooting with the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship Rifle / Pistol, the last qualifier for the Paris Olympic Games
In the first final this Monday, Jean Quiquampoix won the first gold medal for France in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men competition. With regularity and precision, the Frenchman beat the Chinese Lu Zhiming 34 to 30, after 40 shots. Bronze went to Poland’s Oskar Miliwek.

Brazil had the participation of three athletes in the race: Emerson Duarte (23rd – 567pts), Vladimir Silveira (32nd – 548pts) and Felipe Wu (33rd – 548pts). The award was made by the ISSF General Secretary, Willi Grill, and by the competition’s Technical Delegate, Rafael Guerra.
The last gold medal of the 2023 edition was won by Norwegian Jeanette Duestad in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women. After finishing the qualifying phase in fourth place, Duestad dominated the final from the start to beat India’s Nischal Nischal by 3.5pts: 461.5 to 458pts. The bronze went to Laura Grundsoee, from Denmark.

Geovana Meyer was the best ranked Brazilian, in 24th with 583pts, and was four points away from a place among the eight finalists. Andressa Souza added 562pts. The award was made by the General Secretary of ISSF, Willi Grill, and by the president of CBTE, Jodson Edngton.
Italy leads the medals table.

After five days of competition, ten finals and 30 medals distributed, Italy finished first in the medal table: two gold and one bronze (three in total). China came in second place with one gold, four silver and three bronze (eight). Hungary and Norway shared third place with one gold, one silver and one bronze (three). Three countries finished tied for fifth: France, Germany and India, with one gold and one silver (two overall)..

The ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro 2023 was organized by CBTE in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and the support of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the Brazilian Army, the ISSF and the Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos (CBC).
