NEW GENERATION SHINES IN THE 10M AIR RIFLE AT ISSF WORLD CUP RIO DE JANEIRO
The new generation of world sports shooting shone in the final of the 10m Air Rifle Men’s and Women’s of the ISSF World Cup Rio de Janeiro Rifle / Pistol. Italian Danilo Sollazzo, 20, and Indian Elavenil Valarivan, 24, won the gold medal in two of the most competitive finals of the event, which is being held at the Military Shooting Sports Centre (CMTE).
In the men’s decision, Danilo Sollazzo, eighth in the classification phase, beat German Maximiliam Dallinger, third in the first phase, by one point: 251.0pts to 250.0pts. The bronze medal went to Norwegian Jon-Hermann Hegg.
Brazil had four athletes in the race: Eduardo Sampaio (45th – 618.3pts), Cassio Rippel (52nd – 615.7pts), Victor Bayma (57th – 611.4pts) and Renato Agonigi (67th – 572.0pts).
In an exciting final, Indian Elavenil Valarivan, eighth in the qualifying phase, secured the gold medal by beating Frenchwoman Oceanne Muller, aged 20, by 252.2pts to 251.9pts. The bronze medal went to 21-year-old Chinese Jiale Zhang. Of the eight finalists in the competition, six were under 25 years old.
Brazil was represented by Geovana Meyer (62nd – 618.0pts), Andressa Souza (68th – 615.9pts), Brenda Pereira (77th – 610.9pts) and Izabella Silva (80th – 597.0pts).
After three days of competition and six finals, Italy leads the medal table with two gold and one bronze (a total of three). In second place is Germany with one gold and one silver (two), followed by Armenia, India and Serbia, all with one gold. China occupies sixth position with two silver and two bronze (four overall).
