SLOVAKIA AND SERBIA DOMINATE THE SECOND DAY OF THE ISSF WORLD CUP RIO DE JANEIRO.
Athletes from Slovakia and Serbia won gold on the second day of the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol Rio de Janeiro, by winning the Men’s and Women’s 10m Air Pistol, respectively, at the Military Shooting Sport Centre (Olympic Shooting Centre-Rio2016), in Rio. After the first two days of competition, Germany leads the medal table, with one gold, one silver and one bronze (three in total). In second is Croatia, with one gold and one bronze (two in total).
In the men’s final, the Slovak Juraj Tuzinsky won the gold medal by defeating the German Robin Walter by 16-6. The bronze went to Christian Reitz, from Germany. The best ranked Brazilian was the silver medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Felipe Wu, who finished in 14th place with 571 points. “From the beginning, I found the race very difficult. I always had to chase the result because I couldn’t maintain a regularity”, said Wu.
Philippe Chateaubrian led the competition in the second series, but ended up in 17th place, with 569 points. “In the first three series I was 100% focused and putting into practice the correct procedures, which kept me in the top three. In fourth grade I couldn’t maintain the same concentration and my performance dropped. Although I recovered a little in the final two series, it wasn’t enough to get a spot in the final”, explained Chateaubrian.
The women’s final was played between the Serbian Zorana Arunovic and the Greek Anna Korakaki. The series was tied until 6 to 6, but from then on Arunovic opened up the lead and closed at 16 to 6. The bronze medal went to Frenchwoman Camille Jedrzejewski. The best placed Brazilian was Anna Paula Cotta in 16th. This Wednesday, six more finals will be played starting at 9:15 am Brasília time.
The ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro is organized by the Brazilian Shooting Sport Confederation, with the support of the Brazil Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Army, the Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos, the Sellier&Bellot and the ECOS Turismo.
