BRAZIL WINS BRONZE AT ISSF WORLD CUP RIFLE/PISTOL RIO DE JANEIRO

Felipe Wu, Philipe Chateaubrian and Roberto Gomes won the bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Team Men of the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol Rio de Janeiro. In the dispute for third place, the Brazilian team beat Argentina by 16-2. In the gold medal decision, Germany and Iran had a balanced confrontation, but the Germans got the better in the end and closed the series at 16-10.

Brazil secured its first medal at the World Cup, which is being held at the Military Shooting Sport Centre, in Rio, with excellent teamwork, regularity and precision.

“Certainly, our rapport was fundamental. I am very happy with our achievement, a feeling of joy and gratitude to God because we always train, seek and dream of winning a medal in an ISSF competition. And being in Brazil is a feeling of enormous happiness, almost indescribable. I also highlight the presence of Felipe Wu, who has been following our growth for a long time, is an example as an athlete and helps us in training. Tips from him were fundamental to our union and to achieving our goal”, said Philipe Chateaubrian.

Silver medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the same place as the World Cup, the experience of Felipe Wu from São Paulo was decisive in the dispute with the Argentines.

“I am very happy to compete here again and win a medal in the World Cup. Unfortunately my performance in the qualifying phase was not so good, but in the bronze decision I had a good performance and was able to help the team better. In addition, it is a different competition, we show that we are well connected and we can help each other”, analyzed Felipe.

Newcomer to the World Cup, Roberto Gomes was very excited about the achievement and hopes it will be the first of many medals.

“It’s a great satisfaction, the chip hasn’t fallen yet, this achievement is so unprecedented. I’ll keep training, chasing and more medals to come. I make a point of dedicating this medal to my wife, who always helps and supports me at all times, and to all the people who encourage me daily,” he added.

After the first three days of competition, Germany leads the medal table, with four gold, one silver and two bronze (seven in total). In second is Iran, with one gold, one silver and two bronze (four in total).

The ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro is organized by the Brazilian Shooting Sport Confederation, with the support of the Brazil Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Army, the Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos, the Sellier&Bellot and the ECOS Turismo.
