BRAZIL HAS 24 ATHLETES IN THE ISSF WORLD CUP RIFLE / PISTOL RIO DE JANEIRO

The Brazilian team will compete in the ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro with 24 athletes, 12 men and 12 women. In all, 205 athletes from 30 countries will participate in the Air Rifle, Rifle 3 Position, Air Pistol and Rapid Fire Pistol disciplines, all of them for men and women. The competition, from April 9 April to 19, will be held at the Centro Militar de Tiro Esportivo, in Deodoro, West Zone of the city.

The disputes will officially start next monday (11th), at 9 am in Brasília, with the 10m Air Rifle men. The first Brazilian to enter the stand will be Dimas de Oliveira Júnior. Then, at 11 am, it will be the turn of the 10m Air Rifle women with the presence of Andressa Sousa, Brenda Pereira, Geovana Meyer and Izabella da Silva.

It’s impossible to talk about shooting in Brazil and not mention Felipe Wu, silver medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. One of the country’s top athletes, the 29-year-old from São Paulo is motivated and confident in holding the World Cup again in Brazil, especially in stand in Rio de Janeiro.

“I feel completely at home. I have been training here since 2008 and it has been fundamental to our preparation. This year I intensified my training a little later on account of the competitions in the second semester, which count points towards qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. But I can assure you that I am prepared to represent Brazil and achieve the best possible result”, says Felipe. . “The World Cup in Brazil is very important because it increases the visibility of sport shooting”, he believes.

Among the foreign athletes who will participate in the competition, the Swiss Jan Lochbihler, current world record holder of the Rifle 3 position (50m), a record set at the 2019 World Cup, in Rio; german Christian Reitz, gold medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol; and 20-year-old american Mary Carolynn Tucker, Junior World Champion in Lima (2021) and silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol Rio de Janeiro is organized by the Brazilian Shooting Sport Confederation, with the support of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Army, the Companha Brasileira de Cartuchos, the Sellier&Bellot and the ECOS Turismo.
